Stiletto Nails with Hot Pink Gel Polish
I got my nails filled today and decided to give stiletto nails a try. Since I’m not bold – or dumb- enough to get the fully pointed super long stilettos my nail tech Kim suggested I get the minis instead. Now before you full-on stiletto nail sportin’ ladies get mad, please note that when I say “dumb” I’m referencing myself, not you. Those of you who have been following me for a while can attest to the fact I’m somewhat accident prone and would likely stab myself in the eye with the such sharp nails. So in order to keep me glammed up without being a danger to myself, we decided to go with these hot pink gel mini-stilettos.
I have to say I love these. They’re not as sharp as they could be, but because the look is so dramatic Kim suggested I try it this way first to see if I like it. Baby steps if you will. I actually think I may keep them this way as I think they’re just right. What I wasn’t expecting -that makes me even more glad we went for baby steps – is these make typing a little more challenging. They’re gorgeous and sexy, but gonna take some getting used to for sure.
Another bonus is because the nails get thinner at the top and draw the eye upward, they create the illusion of longer, slimmer fingers. Which is great for people like me with shorter, chubbier fingers cuz we need all the help we can get. As for the gel polish, I took a look at the bottle and the brand my shop uses is called Gelish. The color is #402 High Voltage and I’m pretty much in love with this super sparkly, deep pink hue.
I’ll keep you guys updated on how I’m doing with these, but so far, so fab!
Candy Pink Gel Nails = True Love ♡
My fabulous nail tech Kim talked me into trying out these new gel nails, and omg I am in loooove with the results. I’m a big fan of sparkly nails and this is probably the most sparkle I’ve ever had upon my fingertips.
This is what my nails look like against a light background. What I love about the color is it’s multi-dimensional, so it looks light against some colors and a little darker against others. This backdrop pulls out the iridescent tones so it almost looks like I have diamonds on my fingers.
Against this pretty black pillow the deeper pink glitter really comes out, making the look more intense. It almost reminds me of Barbie pink.
The process to create these pretty nails isn’t as hard as one would think either. All my tech did was fill my nails with pink acrylic, then apply a basecoat of gel before applying 3 coats of the colored gel. She then finished it off with a top coat and I was all done. The whole process actually took less time than my normal pink and white fills do, and it was only abut $5 more. Totally worth it for the extra sparkle if you ask me!
Hello Kitty Nails, I Haz Them!
Last night in a fit of desperation I did the unthinkable – I cheated on my nail lady. I know, I know. I never thought it would happen either. But as I sit here with the evidence of my indiscretions upon my fingers and Careless Whisper playing in the background I have to admit – I ain’t even sorry!

I found this place on Yelp! yesterday when I realized I wouldn’t have time to make it to my usual place in time to get my nails done and meet up with my friends. So I figured I would find something near where we were meeting to save a little time. I checked out a few reviews, but this one caught my eye because I saw a client had posted photos of her 3D Hello Kitty nails to their page. And you guys know the two best ways to get my attention are bling and/or Hello Kitty. And once I laid eyes upon them, I knew I had to have them. And so I went to this magical place, and behold – I now have Hello Kitty nails of my very own.

You can read the full review of my experience on Yelp! but suffice it to say, I’ve found my new nail shop. I’m so in love with my nails I can’t stop staring at my hands. And because Hello Kitty’s face was created using acrylic powder, it won’t pop off like the charms of the old days that were placed on the nail with glue and fell off within a day or two. My only gripe is that I didn’t discover this place sooner, as it’s literally right across the street from the townhouse I used to share with my bff. Oh, and the rude chola who was sitting next to me as I got my nails done. In short, she threatened to “cut” her nail tech, yelled at another nail tech for allegedly “staring” at her, and attempted to yell at me for walking by her boyfriend like I’m “all that.” Because supposedly my ass was “all in his face.” Ya, she was a classy one alright. Which I knew right off the bat, given the cutoff sweatshorts and Chinese slippers she was sporting at 5 in the afternoon.
Classy fellow nail connoisseurs aside however, my nails are gorgeous and my experience was a pleasant one. And did I mention I love my nails? Because I do =)
Review- OPI Mermaid in the Shade Collection
From the second I saw the SEPHORA by OPI Mermaid in the shade nail polish collection, I’ve been obsessed with it. I was heartbroken when the green and blue hues that were all the rage circa 1997 went out of style, so for them to be back in after more than 10 years makes Jackie a happy girl.
I picked up two shades from the collection – Mermaid to Order (an iridescent teal with hints of purple and blue) and Underwater Fantasy (a shimmering baby blue with hints of purple). These were the best of the bunch, but there are a few more I plan to pick up like Lagoon-a-Beach (you clever bastards!) and Blue Grotto. The other two colors, Water Baby and Just a Fairy-tale are silvery, shimmery colors that are both lovely, but look like they’re from the regular collection and therefore didn’t get me too excited.
The first color I’m trying out is Mermaid to Order, and since giving myself a pedi the night I got this home I haven’t been able to stop staring at my toes. The color is different every time I look at it, and the hues really bring out my tan which I love. Since I’m such a fan of this shade, I asked the girl at Sephora if there’s a possibility any of these colors would make it into the regular line, and she said it’s very likely OPI will keep the most popular ones. So far, she says, Mermaid to Order and Underwater Fantasy have been the most in demand.
It’s pretty obvious I’m gonna give this product a high rating, but I would like to outline exactly why you need to pick these polishes up, just in case there’s any confusion!
1. These colors are perfect for summer, aka open toe shoe season. They’ll look great poolside, and change color every time the sunlight catches your nails.
2. I did my pedi a week ago and have yet to see a chip in my polish, so you know this will hold up in the sand and surf.
3. The more popular these are, the more likely OPI is to add them to the regular line. And damn it I want Mermaid to Order year round!
4. Because I said so. Really, that should be enough right there.
Final Grade: LOVE IT!
Price: $9
Get it at: www.sephora.com
UPDATE 6/1 – save a few small chips, my polish is STILL going strong. Which is good news, cuz that means these bottles are gonna last me till the apocalypse.
UPDATE 2: I just watched I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! and after watching that flaming douche rocket Spencer proclaim he’s “the king of America,” I’m convinced the apocalypse has already happened. Damn it, why didn’t someone tell me!
Sparkle Nails FTW!
I know you guys love my nail blogs, so I thought I’d share my latest adventure in nail fabulousness, as I am quite happy with the results.
One of my Sephora consultalnts referred me to this little nail spot by my house that does custom sparkle nails. And since that has Jackie written all over it, I had to check it out.
For those of you not familiar with sparkle nails, they’re done using the same technique as pink and white, only glittery powder is used on the tips as opposed to white. Most salons that offer this service have tons of colors, but this is the first one I’ve been to that lets you create your own. I went with a mixture of pink and silver glitter, and I just loooooove it! I also tried dark pink powder for the actual nail, and will definitely do that from now on, as it really brings out the color of the glitter. And the nail tech even mixed a little extra to keep for my next visit, so I will be back for sure.
If there’s no salon in your area that offers a custom sparkle mix, I suggest asking them to do it. In most cases, they’re happy to oblige.
