The Sephora Catalog = Porn for Girly Girls.
This came in the mail today and the second I saw it I dropped everything and sat in the entryway of my apartment looking through it just like my creepy neighbor does when he gets his Victoria’s Secret catalog. I don’t know what it is, but something about new makeup products and trends makes me giddy. Maybe not as giddy as my creepy neighbor looking at Miranda Karr in her undies – but still, pretty darn excited!
Fall has always been my favorite season, so it’s no wonder that Fall trends are always the most exciting for me. This year, autumn means bold colored eyeliner, full lashes and the return of the deep burgundy lips that graced the pages of fashion magazines in the mid 90s.
Yup, they even have a centerfold. A mascara centerfold complete with perfume samples.
This little blurb gave me mixed feelings though. I think it’s a great idea to have a scan code so people can shop and find out more from their phones. But making it available only to iPhone users leaves out the millions of Sephora customers who are also Android users such as myself. Sure, they have a mobile app we can use too but it’s not nearly as cool. Sephora, I love you but I’m still waiting on my Droid app!
Oh and by the way, look closely at the mascara centerfold, there’s a hint as to what my next review will be
Epic Haul Time – Ulta, Sephora and KillaMonroe
Birthdays are awesome because after the gifts come the…giftcards! Thanks to the generosity of my friends I did some amazing shopping this week without spending a dime. Check out the damage I did at Ulta and Sephora below- and get a first look at some amazing things KillaMonroe Cosmetics sent me for review!

Here are a few swatches as well, so far I’m really impressed with the pigmentation of these colors. From left to right they are: Baybee, Sin, Soul, Turquesa and Badassery.

Lollipop Splash & Sephora Gift Card Haul!
I’ve been pretty down lately, so when a few of my coworkers/friends proposed a post-work trip to the mall to cheer me up, I was more than ready with my bday gift cards in hand. If it’s one thing I love more than shopping, it’s shopping without spending any money. My first stop was Macy’s because Mariah Carey’s latest line of fragrances, Lollipop Splash hit stores this week and I had to get mine!
I didn’t have enough on my Macy’s giftcard to get all three, so I went with “Inseparable” and “Never Forget You” which smell amazing. I’ll probably pick up the third one some time next week so I can do a full review for you guys since I know you’ll be asking =)
Here’s a photo of the bottles up close. I love the bright tropical colors. Scent wise, both smell light, fruity and delicious though I have to say, Inseparable (pink bottle) is my favorite so far.
Afterwards we hit up Sephora were I got my favorite Sephora lipgloss in “She Sparkles” as well as the Urban Decay “Quinceanera” makeup bag I’ve been just DYING for. The bag was originally only offered online, so when I spotted this glittering purple display I squealed so loud I scared my guy friends half to death. But how can I not be excited – look how sparkly it is!!!
Between the pretty new things I got and my hilarious friends providing non-stop comedy relief, I actually am feeling a bit better. It’s amazing what shopping and good friends can do to change a girls mood!
Review- OPI Mermaid in the Shade Collection
From the second I saw the SEPHORA by OPI Mermaid in the shade nail polish collection, I’ve been obsessed with it. I was heartbroken when the green and blue hues that were all the rage circa 1997 went out of style, so for them to be back in after more than 10 years makes Jackie a happy girl.
I picked up two shades from the collection – Mermaid to Order (an iridescent teal with hints of purple and blue) and Underwater Fantasy (a shimmering baby blue with hints of purple). These were the best of the bunch, but there are a few more I plan to pick up like Lagoon-a-Beach (you clever bastards!) and Blue Grotto. The other two colors, Water Baby and Just a Fairy-tale are silvery, shimmery colors that are both lovely, but look like they’re from the regular collection and therefore didn’t get me too excited.
The first color I’m trying out is Mermaid to Order, and since giving myself a pedi the night I got this home I haven’t been able to stop staring at my toes. The color is different every time I look at it, and the hues really bring out my tan which I love. Since I’m such a fan of this shade, I asked the girl at Sephora if there’s a possibility any of these colors would make it into the regular line, and she said it’s very likely OPI will keep the most popular ones. So far, she says, Mermaid to Order and Underwater Fantasy have been the most in demand.
It’s pretty obvious I’m gonna give this product a high rating, but I would like to outline exactly why you need to pick these polishes up, just in case there’s any confusion!
1. These colors are perfect for summer, aka open toe shoe season. They’ll look great poolside, and change color every time the sunlight catches your nails.
2. I did my pedi a week ago and have yet to see a chip in my polish, so you know this will hold up in the sand and surf.
3. The more popular these are, the more likely OPI is to add them to the regular line. And damn it I want Mermaid to Order year round!
4. Because I said so. Really, that should be enough right there.
Final Grade: LOVE IT!
Price: $9
Get it at: www.sephora.com
UPDATE 6/1 – save a few small chips, my polish is STILL going strong. Which is good news, cuz that means these bottles are gonna last me till the apocalypse.
UPDATE 2: I just watched I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! and after watching that flaming douche rocket Spencer proclaim he’s “the king of America,” I’m convinced the apocalypse has already happened. Damn it, why didn’t someone tell me!
It’s the Summer of Mermaids!
The Mermaid look is taking over this summer, and I couldn’t be more excited! I literally squealed when my copy of the Sephora catalog came in the mail and I saw the sea of deep blues, shimmering greens and luscious purples that awaited me inside.
I stopped off at my local Sephora today to see if these beautiful make-ups were as awesome in person as they were in the pictures, and I walked out with $200 worth of stuff. So the answer would be yes. What siren inspired goodies filled my bag you ask? Lots of eye shadows – my favorite being a teal hue by Urban Decay – bronzers, lip glosses and several shades from the OPI Mermaid inspired nail polish collection. By the way, those may be the most gorgeous nail polish colors I’ve ever seen, and at $9 a pop it’s a pretty good deal. I most definitely will be reviewing these, my toe nails are actually drying as I write this so it should be along shortly.
If you’re really in the mood for a good deal, I suggest picking up one of the mermaid inspired kits they have available. It’s a great way to get everything you need without spending $20 here and there. Two Faced is offering a gorgeous shimmering green make-up bag packed with bronzers, lip gloss and mascara while Bare Escentuals has something similar, that also includes a fabulous set of eye shadows
So to celebrate the best make-up color scheme EVER, I’ll be bombarding you guys with a barrage of mermaid inspired reviews and tutorials. First up will be the OPI reviews, followed by not one, but TWO mermaid inspired tutorials!
Is anyone else suddenly in the mood to watch Splash, or is it just me?
