Urban Decay Book of Shadows IV – An Overview
I had a pretty rough week so I decided to hit the mall for some retail therapy at the Steve Madden store. On my way there I had to pass by the Urban Decay counter at Macy’s and look what had just arrived! I’d been dying to get my hands on this thing since I saw Kandee Johnson’s review so i just couldn’t pass it up. I initially hesitated because of the hefty $64 price tag but after playing with this palette for a few days I have to admit it’s pretty darn cool – even for the price.
I love how bright and futuristic looking the box is. It’s really fitting considering this palette is part beauty, part technology and all glam.
How cute are the 3D butterflies!? This is totally something you leave out as a decorative piece on your dresser or makeup table. It’s so pretty I almost feel bad for keeping it locked up in my makeup cabinet.
This palette is packed with goodies including 16 eyeshadows (10 new shades), a 24/7 liquid liner in Perversion (black), a curling mascara and a mini tube of UD primer potion. Not to mention all the techy stuff- QR codes so you can view tutorials on your phone, a mini speaker and usb cables.
These are swatches of the brighter colors. From left to right they are: Hijack (sparkling green – for some reason it didn’t photograph well but it’s gorgeous!), Lost (creamy brown), Gravity (deep, shimmering purple), Bender (matte green), Baked (rich gold), Cobra (black with gold flecks), Gunmetal (dark, glittery gray), Blue Bus (Blue with pink undertones).
These are the more neutral shades. From left to right: Bust (matte, taupey color), Missionary (light, shimmery taupe), Skimp (Light Beige), Zephyr (iridescent white), Crystal (glittery baby blue), Midnight Rodeo (dark taupe with large gold flecks), Sin (shimmering natural beige), Midnight Cowgirl (buttery gold with gold flakes).
I’ve already tried a few of the looks they put together, but I can’t wait to play around and come up with some of my own. This is SO gonna be my favorite new toy!
Lollipop Splash & Sephora Gift Card Haul!
I’ve been pretty down lately, so when a few of my coworkers/friends proposed a post-work trip to the mall to cheer me up, I was more than ready with my bday gift cards in hand. If it’s one thing I love more than shopping, it’s shopping without spending any money. My first stop was Macy’s because Mariah Carey’s latest line of fragrances, Lollipop Splash hit stores this week and I had to get mine!
I didn’t have enough on my Macy’s giftcard to get all three, so I went with “Inseparable” and “Never Forget You” which smell amazing. I’ll probably pick up the third one some time next week so I can do a full review for you guys since I know you’ll be asking =)
Here’s a photo of the bottles up close. I love the bright tropical colors. Scent wise, both smell light, fruity and delicious though I have to say, Inseparable (pink bottle) is my favorite so far.
Afterwards we hit up Sephora were I got my favorite Sephora lipgloss in “She Sparkles” as well as the Urban Decay “Quinceanera” makeup bag I’ve been just DYING for. The bag was originally only offered online, so when I spotted this glittering purple display I squealed so loud I scared my guy friends half to death. But how can I not be excited – look how sparkly it is!!!
Between the pretty new things I got and my hilarious friends providing non-stop comedy relief, I actually am feeling a bit better. It’s amazing what shopping and good friends can do to change a girls mood!
Summer Trend: Urban Decay Rollergirl Palette
Urban Decay’s latest offering is a sultry combination of hot pink and smoldering neutrals designed to go “from the office right into your next hot date.” Which pretty much sounds just like me. If you replace the “hot date” with “watching the Sharks game at a crowded bar surrounded by drunks.” In any case, this is probably the first UD palette I’ve been excited about since the Naked Palette launched, and you can see why. The colors are just gorgeous!
Priced at $32.00, the palette contains:
4 Eyeshadows- Woodstock (a bright hot pink), Verve (shimmery off white), Suspect (coppery color found in the Book of Shadows) and Darkhorse (a rich, shimmering chocolate brown also featured in the Naked Palette)
1 24/7 Eyeliner – Whiskey (a rich, velvety brown)
1 Lip Junkie Lipgloss – Crush (sheer hot pink)
I checked it out at Sephora yesterday and the pics don’t even do this palette justice. The packaging – with retro roller girls, gleaming gold foil and pink accents – is super cute while the combination of neutral eyes and hot pink lips are pretty much my idea of makeup perfection. I’ll be picking one up tomorrow after the sharks game (geez, obsessed much!) so I should have a look for you guys by next week. Until then, this makeup addict is off to bed. Goodnight darlings!
Holiday Inspired Look #2 – Candy Canes
It’s a little known secret that I loooooove me some candy canes. Most people are kind of indifferent towards them, thinking of them as nothing more than the part of their stocking they throw away. But no, not to me. For I am a die hard fan of peppermint and candy canes are made from peppermint. So naturally I had to dedicate an entire tutorial to my favorite minty holiday treat. With a little extra glitter of course.
