Review: MAKE UP FOREVER Microperfecting Primer HD – Neutral

Oh man, I never thought I’d say this about any MAKE UP FOREVER product, but…HATED IT!

makeupforever

Initially I couldn’t wait to try this out because I’m such a huge fan of MAKE UP FOREVER’s HD Foundation. I figure if the foundation itself makes my skin look great, then the primer would make me look even better. They offer a variety of formulas in correct different complexion issues, but I went with the Neutral version cuz it promises to make skin look luminous. And I’ve been looking to add a little luminosity to my beauty routine anyway, so that works out.

Or so I thought. Cuz what ensued after my first application of this primer was nothing short of an epic fail. I started with a small amount and just added a little where needed. It’s a fairly runny so it went on easy, but I noticed once it dried my face felt kinda sticky. I thought that was weird but I applied my HD Foundation anyways expecting to look flawless and, well luminous. Instead the primer had gotten all gummy, and caused my foundation to do the same.

When I looked in the mirror, my face looked all chalky and weird. By this point my face felt so sticky I couldn’t stand it, so I had to wash everything off and start all over, using a regular moisturizer as a base this time. Which made me late to work – er, later than usual – which was fun.

After my experience I went on the Sephora website to read some reviews and a lot of people are giving this primer 5 stars, so I’m thinking I may be allergic to it, or it just wasn’t the right formula for my face.

So, even though I “HATED IT” I’m gonna give it another try. I’m thinking I’ll go for the redness reducing formula this time, so I’ll report back. In the meantime, if any of you guys have used this primer, let me know your thoughts, as I’m wondering if anyone else has had this same experience.

Final Verdict: HATED IT!

Review: Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation

I’m gonna keep it real here folks – I hate high coverage foundation and only bought this because the consultant who recommended it was super hot. So imagine my surprise when I ended up actually liking the stuff! Wow, a cute consultant who knows his products…oy, that guy just keeps getting hotter.

So anyway, at first the name scared me a little. To me, anything designed to look good on camera is gonna be really thick and look like spackle. And what girl doesn’t wanna look like she did her make-up at the Home Depot? Answer: Me.

So I dabbed this on very lightly, then went over it with a foundation brush. I was amazed at how just a small amount made my skin look velvety and flawless. And because it offers “buildable coverage” as Sephora hottie boy calls it, a few extra dabs on my problem areas – dark circles and blemishes – and my skin was perfect.

And the color selection is outstanding. There’s seriously a shade for every skin color and undertone. Even mine was easy to match, and that’s saying something cuz the last time I bought foundation I ended up at the Lancome counter with three people standing around me trying to swatch my face. BTW – my color – as suggested by Sephora hottie boy – is 153 Golden Honey, for “medium skin with olive undertones.”

The one drawback to this product is that it’s really easy to get carried away and apply it too heavily, so start with a teeny, tiny amount and build your way up. Remember, it’s way easier to add more than it is to take it off. And while you can apply this with a sponge or your fingers, I find the foundation brush delivers the smoothest, most even application.

That being said, I still love it, and will be debuting my new camera friendly foundation in my next tutorial.

Final Verdict- WIN

Wednesday Night Beauty Haul

After a long day of work fail, I needed an impromptu trip to the evil den of temptation that is Sephora to calm my nerves. So with accomplices Sarah and Mollena in tow, I proceeded to rip it up in that heezy, and spend WAY more than I had originally planned. I also participated in a three way barrage of profanity and obscene comments that I’m certain scared the staff, but that’s another story for another day.

So, in addition to the Hello Kitty brush set I purchased at the MAC counter, here are the other fabulous items I procured:

021

* Make Up Forever HD High Definition Foundation - the tall, delicious man working the Stila section told me this foundation “looks great on camera,” so naturally I had to pick some up. Granted, he could have been selling old gym socks and Kathy Lee Gifford CDs for all I cared and I still would have bought them. In any case, expect a full fledged review of this product in the near future.

* Benefit Lip Plump - this primer makes lips look fuller, and I’m all about that! I used this stuff years ago, but it’s been a while so I figured I’d give it another whirl. I was a little annoyed at the price though – last time I bought this it was $16, now it’s $22. Because in today’s dwindling economy, what better way to exacerbate the fail than with massive price increases? YAY!

* Cargo Texas Lash Mascara - This one I’m really excited about. When I heard the term “Texas Lash” I immediately thought of big, thick pageant queen lashes, and that’s exactly what this mascara delivers. Epic win ya’ll!

* Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Eye Pencil in Underground - I use the black version of this every day, so I decided to try out a new color. This one is a shimmery taupe that really brings out brown eyes. It’s not something I’ll likely use everyday, but its always nice to have options.

And now, it’s time to watch a little Family Matters on Nick at Night before bed. Goodnight kids!
